Utah Jazz Stars Williams and Korver to Play in Sorenson Champions Challenge

LEHI, Utah, October 7, 2009–Sorenson Champions Challenge, where golf’s legends play in Utah, announced today that Utah Jazz stars Deron Williams and Kyle Korver will play in Johnny Miller’s Sorenson Champions Challenge Pro-Am tournament on Monday, October 12th. On Tuesday Williams and Korver will play with local golf professionals Steele DeWald and Boyd Summerhays in a non-competing special celebrity pairing for the Sorenson Champions Challenge.
Williams is returning to compete in the Sorenson Champions Challenge golf tournament for a second time after making an appearance in lastyear’s tournament. One of the elite players in the NBA, Williams lead the Utah Jazz in 2007-2008 to an NBA sixth best 54-28 regular season record, the Western Conference Northwest Division title and the 2008 NBA playoffs. Williams also became only the 3rd player in NBA history to record more than 1,500 points, hand out more than 800 assists and shoot over .500 from the field in a single season.
Korver will be playing in his first Sorenson Champions Challenge tournament after competing in the Utah Open golf tournament and the Utah Men’sState Amateur golf tournament earlier in 2009. A six-year NBA veteran, Korver appeared in 78 games for the Utah Jazz in 2008-2009 where he made a Utah Jazz team-high 103 three point field goals, shooting .386 percent from behind the arc.
Held at the prestigious Thanksgiving Point Golf Club in Lehi, UT, the Sorenson Champions Challenge will also showcase 2008 US Open Runner-Up Rocco Mediate; Sandy, Utah resident and 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir; LPGA professional and model Anna Rawson; CBS golf analyst Ian Baker-Finch and music icon Vince Gill; among other golf legends and sports celebrities.
Tournament proceeds will benefit the Thanksgiving Point Foundation and the Deron Williams Point of Hope Foundation.
